I've just gotten back from an internship meeting with Washington, D.C. Paleontologist, Dr. Peter Kranz. We spoke briefly about the Dinosaur Park (Listed as Muirkirk Clay and Gravel Pits in MGS-ES5-Minerals of the Washington, DC Area) he's running. The "groundbreaking", so to speak, occurs in three weeks. Sounds very interesting. One thing I enjoyed was his introduction of flora species to the park that lived solely in the Paleozoic/Mesozoic time period (ex: Ginkos!). Sets the mood nicely. Anyway, we discussed the fact of me working as an intern for him during the spring and summer, which will be great. I can even have a certain plot of land near my house to tend and examine for fossils - provided I come up with written reports of what I find. Fantastic! Note to self: I've also got to call a Mr. Fulton (a man who works for a nearby paper) and see if I can arrange a time where we both can go around the area and look for footprints. Supposedly he knows where all the good spots are. Awesome possum.
Just an update, if anyone's interested in reading this. I've definitely got to study more of the geological formations and whatnot so I know what Dr. Kranz is talking about. We'll be meeting again soon when he comes up to my area, so I'm excited.
EDIT: Here's a link to Dr. Kranz's website if anyone is interested.
